For the other types of engines, with four, eight, and ten cylinders, if the lengths of manifolds are identical, then the sound pressure in the surge tank has similar features to that of six-cylinder engines. Only firing order and harmonics are present; the sound pressures of the half order and all of the other orders cancel each other.

Next we consider a case of a six-cylinder engine with center-feed manifolds. For this case, the sound waves of the half order cancel each other due to structural symmetry. But all of the sound waves of the orders with whole numbers remain, such as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. Figure 3.49 represents an order spectrum of sound pressure of a six-cylinder engine with center-feed manifolds.
